our story

Some things are built. Some things are called forth.

FRAMEHAUS was called forth.

Founded by Bizzie Ruth — photographer, curator, and writer — FRAMEHAUS is an art curation company rooted in Hartford, CT, and built with one conviction at its center: artists of color deserve more than access. They deserve infrastructure, intention, and rooms that was made with them in mind.

Where It Started

In 2019, Bizzie Ruth launched THE PHOTOBOOTH — an event curation company dedicated to creating opportunities for Black and Brown visual artists in Hartford. At a time when those spaces were scarce, THE PHOTOBOOTH carved one out: producing events, building community, and proving that the appetite for this kind of work was real and ready.

What started as events became something larger. The community grew. The vision deepened. And in 2026, THE PHOTOBOOTH has evolved into FRAMEHAUS — a fuller expression of everything the work had been reaching toward. The name changed. The mission sharpened. The house got bigger.

With a combined following of over 8,000, the roots run deep.

THE NAME

A frame is not just a decoration.

A frame is a decision — about what deserves to be seen, how it should be held, and the stories that get carried on. FRAMEHAUS exists at that intersection: the house that holds the frame.

THE SPACE BETWEEN THE WORK AND THE WORLD.

Our Founder,

Bizzie Ruth, has spent her career building that space — through narrative photography that forces people to feel, through curation that sequences stories with care, through film and poetry that reach toward the people and places she loves most. FRAMEHAUS is the culmination of that practice: a company, a community, and a philosophy made tangible.

how we work

WE ARE GROUNDED IN THREE PRINCIPLES

Root

We begin with where we come from. Every project, every artist, every exhibition is grounded in cultural memory and community truth. We don't create in a vacuum. We create in relationship — to place, to people, to the stories that came before us.

Hold

We build spaces where artists and communities feel genuinely held. Seen, supported, and taken seriously. FRAMEHAUS exists to close the gap between talent and opportunity — and to make sure the room that was missing gets built.

Move

We measure success by what shifts. Not just in a room on opening night, but in how people leave — how much bigger they dream, what they reach for, what they decide they deserve. Art that doesn't move people is decoration. We don't make decoration.

what we do

FRAMEHAUS operates across several disciplines, including:

Art Curation | Photography | Film | Creative Consultation | Set Design

FRAMEHAUS serves individual artists, small businesses, nonprofits, and cultural institutions. Our anchor clients include TheBlackManCan, Semilla Cafe, Mutual Aid Hartford, and the City of Hartford.

Our flagship exhibition, Finding Home: Navigating Culture In Between, opens August 7th

Finding Home is a multi-media exhibition exploring identity, belonging, and what it means to navigate the space between where your family is from and the spaces you were raised in. Alongside it, A Layover at Semilla Cafe offers an intimate companion experience: the pause on the way home.

ABOUT BIZZIE

Bizzie Ruth is a second-generation Jamaican American artist and curator whose work spans photography, film, poetry, and cultural production. She is a storyteller in the griot tradition — one who believes that the story and the community that holds it are inseparable.

She started THE PHOTOBOOTH in 2019 and spent five years building it into one of Hartford's most trusted creative platforms before evolving it into FRAMEHAUS in 2026. Her photographic work includes the series A Blk World, Find Your Light, and The Last Women on the Moon. Her film project Black Boy Existing — a ten-vignette coming-of-age series — is an ongoing love letter to her brother and every young Black boy who deserves to be seen whole.

She is currently based in Hartford, with her eyes on the horizon.
